WAYS YOU CAN SERVE
Asbury ARMY
This effort is Asbury people ready and willing to help not only our members and visitors, but others in the area in need of painting and repairs and maintenance on their homes.
These are Youth ministries we participate in every summer. BIG House (Jr High) and UMARMY (Sr High) teams, along with adults travel to another town (usually in Texas) to paint, do yard work and minor repairs on the homes of those unable to do the work themselves.
28Blankets and Blessings
Blankets & Blessings’ ministry is crocheting lap blankets for patients in hospice care. They meet in a member’s home on the 2nd & 4th Sunday afternoons from 4:30 – 6:30 pm to share fellowship and encouragement while crocheting lap blankets. All skill levels are welcome. So if you are a yeoman with yarn or skilled with a skein you are welcome to join this group and get “hooked” on Blankets and Blessings!
The Crop Walk is sponsored by Church World Service in an effort to help feed the hungry. Asbury participates in this annual walk for hunger every October. Money raised is given to Pasadena Community Ministry to assist with purchasing food for their clients.
30Living Water International
Living Water International is a faith-based organization that helps communities in developing countries access safe drinking water. We sent a team to Nicaragua in 2012 and 2013, and currently are planning to send a team to Leon, Nicaragua in August of 2015 to help dig a deep enough well so that families in that area will have clean water to drink and use in their daily lives. Contact us if you would like to be a part of this team!
31Manna Bag Ministry
Manna Bags – filled with food and comfort items to be given to homeless people in the Houston-Pasadena area. We make these bags available for our members and guests to take and hand out to homeless people they may see on the streets during their daily travels. Several times during the year we will carpool to the downtown Houston area and hand them out.
Medical Bridges recovers excess medical supplies that would otherwise be discarded, and distributes them to hospitals and clinics in less fortunate countries. Our members volunteer time in the warehouse in Houston, sorting and boxing these supplies before they are distributed
Pasadena Community Ministry is an organization created to help those in need of food, clothing, and money on a short-term basis. We support this ministry by collecting food and clothing, making monetary donations, and even volunteering time to work there.
34Pasadena Faith in Action
Asbury is one of 15 churches in the Pasadena area involved in this ministry. Men, women, and even children gather together in work teams on the last Saturday in April to do painting, yard work, and repairs and maintenance on homes in Pasadena for people who cannot do the repairs themselves.
35Stuff the Bus
In the summer we collect school supplies for several schools in the Pasadena area whose students may not be able to afford supplies. The supplies are collected, and some of our members will personally take the supplies to the schools for distribution to children as needed.
36Turkey Quest
Turkey Quest is a mission project of Asbury that serves families in our community each year. We collect all the fixin’s for a Thanksgiving meal for each of the families we are put in touch with. We reach out to each of these families by delivering the food to their homes on the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

UMCOR
The United Methodist Committee On Relief collects relief supplies such as health kits, sewing kits, cleaning buckets, layette kits, bedding kits, school kits, and birthing kits. Asbury supports UMCOR not with just our money, but by supplying items necessary to make these kits. The kits and buckets are distributed as needed to areas hit by disasters in the United States and around the globe.
